Legendary Gulf Ford GT40 Le Mans at Concours d’Élégance Paleis Het Loo
The program of the Concours d’Élégance Paleis Het Loo, this year for the first time a three day event, will let the hearts of car enthusiasts beat faster than ever. That is what a Gulf Ford GT40 in perhaps the most beautiful race colors ever will do and on Friday afternoon a Porsche lecture with, among others, Gijs van Lennep.
The weekend starts on Friday, June 29, 2018 with a special lecture about the 55th anniversary of the Porsche 901/911, in which greats from the rich history of Porsche will tell about their experiences with the 911. Gijs Van Lennep is one of the guests. A nice start to a wonderful weekend.
During three days the palace gardens and royal the stables will be filled with the most beautiful classic cars, newest scoops and the finest sports cars. GULF celebrates 50 years of Le Mans and, in addition to the Ford GT40, presents several other legendary racing cars in the recognizable blue / orange GULF colors.
Twelve car brands
The latest and greatest can also be found in Apeldoorn. No less than twelve car car brands are present and bring their newest innovations, naturally with the focus on sportiness and exclusivity. Porsche shows all kinds of model variants of the legendary 911 and there is a display of the Winter Trial, which includes the famous Datsun 240Z rally cars. The FEHAC will bring a number of beautiful classic caravans to Apeldoorn and with 70 years Citroën 2cv as one of the themes it is certain that this type of car will be well represented.
Renault celebrates its 120th anniversary and takes the Etoile Filante, a record car from 1954, which, during a record attempt in Utah, managed to put an average speed of 307 km / h on the clock. The French brand will also show its vision on Formula 1 in 2027. Of course, Alpine is again present. Last year the sports car debuted in Apeldoorn, this time Alpine comes in two versions to Apeldoorn: a stripped-down variant for the purist and a version that offers more luxury and comfort.
The Goodyear Classic Sprint in collaboration with DVSCC is the highlight of the day for many visitors. At different times, the engines are started and dozens of historic cars sprint at great speed over the Koningslaan, which is striped with straw bales. A unique experience for drivers, co-drivers and especially for the public.
Those who come to the event with their own old-timer can park for free in the classic car arena. This is therefore a unique open air museum with the most versatile collection of classic cars in the Netherlands. Visitors who want a classic after seeing all this beauty are also welcome at the sales pitch provided by AutoWeek Classics, where both individuals and companies offer beautiful classics and young timers.
The most beautiful classic cars of world class, will of course take part in the International Competition, just like the Goodyear Classic Sprint has been a regular part of the program for years. The jury, including the famous Dutch car designer Ivo Groen, is now preparing for a participation field where icons such as a Porsche 904, Automobile Stanguellini Fiat, Spyker, Fiat 8V and Veritas Scorpion will appear. What is new is that this year the participants of the international competition have been set up on the beautiful grounds in front of the stables.
